Set up A/C machine

注

Touch time only, Connect to power, Turn power switch on

Open all four doors

Lower all four windows

Move LH front seat forward

Raise LH front seat cushion to maximum height

注

Adjust seat back if needed to avoid contacting headliner

Remove console lower rear panel

注

5x clips

Remove LH rear exterior hardware from center console

注

1x bolt, 10mm, 7 Nm

Move LH front seat backward

注

Ensure profile is saved to allow seat position to be restored

Move RH front seat forward

Raise RH front seat cushion to maximum height

注

Adjust seat back if needed to avoid contacting headliner

Remove RH rear exterior hardware from center console

注

1x bolt, 10mm, 7 Nm

Move the RH front seat back.

Open the hood.

Remove the rear apron.

Remove frunk access panel

注

3x clips, 3x guide tabs, 1x connector

Remove fasteners securing frunk assembly

注

(*Use this ALL MODELS version of the step for multiple-model type procedures) 5x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Newer vehicles may be equipped with 4x bolts and 1x push clip securing frunk to reservoir neck

Remove frunk assembly from vehicle

注

4x clips, Replace any clips if broken or missing

Remove HEPA filter assembly

注

2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Pivot rearward edge up and past brake reservoir, Then lift up to clear frunk assembly, Note: Not all Model Y vehicles have a HEPA filter assembly installed

Power off vehicle from center display

Via Controls > Safety > Power Off, Select Power Off button at warning dialogue box

Disconnect the 12V negative battery cable and First Responder Loop.

Disconnect the LV battery connector and First Responder Loop.

Remove caps from low side and high side A/C ports

注

2x caps

Connect A/C hoses to vehicle

Perform refrigerant system recovery

注

Note or print the amount of refrigerant and oil recovered, If drained oil level increased more than 1.01 oz (30 mL) refer to drained oil loss chart https://toolbox.teslamotors.com/articles/353700

Remove fresh air intake duct

注

1x bolt, 10mm, 4 Nm, 2x clips, 1x pin, Remove bolt, Gently pry pin out from thermal beam then remove duct from bulkhead studs, Maneuver between cowl and frunk

Remove LH wiper arm nut cover

注

1x cover

Remove nut securing LH wiper arm to wiper module

注

1x nut, 15mm, 25 Nm

Disconnect washer hose from LH wiper arm to Y-tube fitting and release washer hose clip

注

1x clip, 1x hose

Remove LH wiper arm and hose assembly from vehicle

Remove RH wiper arm nut cover

注

1x cover

Remove nut securing RH wiper arm to wiper module

注

1x nut, 15mm, 25 Nm

Disconnect washer hose from RH wiper arm to Y-tube fitting and release washer hose clip

注

1x clip, 1x hose

Remove RH wiper arm and hose assembly from vehicle

Disconnect washer hose from washer pump to Y-tube fitting and release washer hose clip

1x clip, 1x hose

Remove cowl screen retaining clips

注

2x push clips

Release cowl clips at center bracket

注

2x retaining clips

Remove LH IP end cap

注

3x clips

Remove LH mid A pillar assembly

注

1x clip, 1x tab, Release upper clip then pull mid A pillar upward to remove

Remove LH upper A-pillar trim

注

3x clips, Pull inside of the upper portion of upper A-pillar, Depress 2x tabs to remove tether from body side, Then pull upper A-pillar upward to remove

Remove clip securing LH lower A pillar trim

注

1x push clip

Remove LH lower A pillar trim

注

6x clips, 2 guide tabs, Pull rear of lower A pillar upward to release clip then pull rearward to release trim panel

Remove LH front floor mat

Remove LH console side panel carpet

注

10x clips, 1x guide pin, Use trim tool starting at top edge to release upper clips, then pull bottom to release remaining clips, Use caution and pull panel straight away from console, if panel is peeled off it could be damaged

Remove LH front exterior hardware from center console

注

2x bolts, 10mm, 7 Nm, The relatively newer vehicles are equipped with a T30 bolt.

Remove screw and clips securing LH footwell cover

注

2x push clips, 1x screw, T20, 2.5 Nm

Remove connectors from LH footwell cover and remove from vehicle

注

3x tabs, 1x Ethernet connector, 1x puddle light connector, APAC specific vehicles an additional ODII connector will have to be connected

Remove fasteners securing driver knee air bag to vehicle

注

2x push clips, 2x screws, T20, 2 Nm, 4x patch bolts, E10, 8 Nm, Discard after removal, Support the knee air bag while lowering, The connector / harness length is very short

Remove driver knee air bag

1x connector, Release locking tab, Then release squib from air bag, Support air bag while disconnecting, Connector release may vary

Remove LH footwell duct from HVAC module

注

Pull LH footwell duct towards LH side of vehicle to remove

Remove clip securing LH front cabin carpet to body

注

1x push clip

Remove RH IP end cap

注

3x clips

Remove RH mid A pillar assembly

注

1x clip, 1x tab, Release the upper clip then pull mid A pillar upward to remove

Remove RH upper A-pillar trim

注

3x clips, Pull inside of the upper portion of upper A-pillar, Remove 3x tether hooks by twisting and pulling away from housing, Then pull upper A-pillar upward to remove

Remove clip securing RH lower A pillar trim

注

1x push clip

Remove RH lower A pillar trim to release seat harness.

注

6x clips, 2 guide tabs, Pull rear of lower A pillar upward to release clip then pull rearward to release trim panel

Remove RH front floor mat

Remove RH console side panel carpet

11x clips, 1x guide pin, Use trim tool starting at top edge to release upper clips, Pull bottom to release remaining clips, Use caution and pull panel straight away from console, if panel is peeled off it could be damaged

Remove RH front exterior hardware from center console

Disconnect USB harness at right front of center console

Remove center console from vehicle

Recommend assistance, Tilt rear of console upward, pull assembly towards rear of vehicle, then tilt front of console upward and remove through passenger side

Remove passenger knee air bag

1x connector, Release locking tab, Then release squib from air bag, Support air bag while disconnecting, Connector release may vary

Remove clip securing RH front cabin carpet to body

Release driver air bag assembly away from steering wheel

注

2x spring clips, 3x datums, Press the spring simultaneously from two access holes to release, Access holes located at 4 and 8 o’clock position, Later production vehicles will have holes located at 6 o’clock. Do not insert tool too far as air bag connector could be damaged

Remove driver air bag assembly

Disconnect steering wheel connector

Release steering wheel from steering column

注

1x patch bolt, 10mm hex, 80 Nm, Discard after removal, Counter hold the steering wheel when breaking bolt loose

Remove steering wheel from steering column

Release steering column upper shroud from lower shroud

4x clips, Pull upward to release steering column upper shroud from lower shroud

Release lower shroud from steering column

注

3x screws, T20, 1.5 Nm

Remove lower screw securing lower shroud to steering column

1x screw, T20, 1.5 Nm

Remove lower shroud from steering column

Disconnect SCCM assembly connector

1x connector, Remove retaining clip on the connector, release connector, then remove the remaining broken clip from connector, Discard retaining clip after removal, Originally installed clip is black, Replacement clip is orange

Remove SCCM from steering column

1x bolt, 5mm allen, 9 Nm

Release IP service panel from IP and disconnect temperature sensor connector

4x clips, 4x tabs, 1x connector

Remove bolts securing center display to IP carrier

注

2x patch bolts, 10mm, 16 Nm, Discard after removal, Slide towards rear of vehicle to remove

Remove bolts securing housing neck to center display and slide away from display

Remove retaining clip from display connector

Disconnect harness connector from center display

Remove bolt securing HVAC assembly to RH side of bulkhead

1x bolt, 10mm, 5.5 Nm

Remove nut securing HVAC assembly to body located on RH side of HVAC assembly

1x nut, 10mm, 5.5 Nm, Slightly move RH carpet and foam towards RH side of vehicle, Recommend assistance to support HVAC assembly Vehicles built after 3/2020 may not have stud and nut

Remove HVAC assembly from vehicle

Remove HVAC assembly towards rear of vehicle, Rotate counter clockwise and remove out of passenger front door, Recommend assistance

Remove vent tube hose from LH side of 12V battery

1x hose

Remove 12V positive terminal cover and positive terminal

注

2x clips, 1x nut, 10mm, 6 Nm, Do not fully remove positive terminal nut

Remove 12V battery strap

注

1x bolt, 10mm, 5 Nm

Remove battery upper tie down strap

注

Lift battery tie down strap up and remove it from the rear tie down hook strap

Remove 12V battery from vehicle

Release LV positive cable clip from front controller

注

1x clip

Disconnect supermanifold harness connector from vcfront

注

1x connector, 1x clip

Remove bolts securing vcfront shield assembly and remove from vehicle

注

2x bolts, 10mm, 8.5 Nm

Disconnect front LV harness connectors from vcfront

注

5x connectors, Release locking tabs

Release harness guide from vcfront

注

2x patch bolts, 8mm, 6 Nm, 1x temp set clip, Discard bolts after removal, Remove bolts first, Then pivot harness guide slightly forward and up to remove temp set clip from front harness

Remove bolts securing vcfront

3x bolts, 10mm, 10 Nm

Remove vcfront upper ground strap from body

1x bolt, 10mm, 10 Nm

Remove vcfront from vehicle

Push harness connectors down to provide space, Gently pry bottom of controller out of BIW temp set holes, Then swing controller forward and up to release from top temp set

Disconnect brake switch

Remove brake switch from pedal assembly

注

Twist counter clockwise 45 degrees to remove, Replace if damaged during removal

Remove cotter clip from clevis pin on brake pedal assembly

Remove clevis pin from brake pedal assembly

Remove clip securing pedal harness to pedal assembly

Remove inner nuts securing pedal assembly to superdash

注

2x nuts, 13mm, 16.5 Nm, Discard nyloc nuts after removal

Remove outer nuts securing pedal assembly to superdash

3x nuts, 13mm, 16.5 Nm, Located under cowl, Discard nyloc nuts after removal

Pull away the iBooster from bulkhead

注

Allowing iBooster push rod to separate from brake pedal arm

Remove pedal assembly

注

2x studs, Release from iBooster studs then negotiate around iBooster rod

Place absorbent material below car computer coolant hose connection points to collect any spilled coolant

Release coolant hoses from car computer

注

2x spring clips

Install coolant plug into coolant outlets of car computer that is being removed from vehicle

Install plugs to car computer coolant hoses

注

2x plugs, Do not need to engage spring clips

Remove nuts securing car computer to bulkhead

注

5x nyloc nuts, 13mm, 7.1 Nm, Discard nuts after removal

Release ground strap from car computer

注

1x bolt, T25, 4 Nm, Bolt located, Discard bolt after removal

Disconnect connectors on front side of car computer

注

2x connectors

Release harness connectors on LH side of car computer

注

7x connectors, If equipped, release locking tab, then remove connector body

Release harness guide clip

注

1x clip, Pinch release tabs with needle nose pliers

Slide car computer inward to allow access to connectors and harness clips

注

With right hand on top of computer and left hand under computer, use right hand to help push airbag up and towards the rear of the vehicle to provide clearance for visor.

Remove visor from car computer

注

4xclips Pull tab on left side of computer away from computer and lift visor up and way.

Release harness clips from top of car computer

注

2x clips, Car computer partially removed for better visual

Release connectors from RH side of car computer and remove from vehicle

注

8x connectors, If equipped, release locking tab, then remove connector body, Replace the car computer, If the old car computer is of the removable SIM card type, please install it onto the new car computer

Disconnect headliner harness

Remove LH body harness clips from left body controller area

Disconnect J7 LH front door connector

注

1x connector, Release lock then remove

Disconnect J9 LH front seat connector

1x connector, Release lock then remove

Disconnect X055 dash connector

Disconnect J11 HVAC connector

Release harness clip from vcleft

Remove bolt securing LH body controller to body

1x bolt, 10mm, 6 Nm

Remove LH controller from vehicle

1x clip, 1x tab, Release molded controller clip and slide LH body controller downward to release tab, Then maneuver LH controller out from under IP

Disconnect coax connector

Disconnect connector from harness guide at RH lower A-pillar area

1x connector

Remove the RH body harness clips from right body controller area

Release harness from IP

Disconnect J2 body connector

1x connector, Release lock then remove

Disconnect J6 frunk connector form vcleft

Release LV positive harness from vcright

Remove bolt securing RH body controller to body

1x bolt, 10mm, 6 Nm

Remove RH controller from vehicle

注

1x clip, 1x tab, Release molded controller clip and slide RH body controller downward to release tab, Then maneuver RH controller out from under IP between harness guide and body

Disconnect steering column from steering gear assembly

注

May need to wiggle or use dead blow to help separate

Release steering column boot from LH side of bulkhead

注

Partially push steering column boot into cabin of vehicle

Remove steering column from vehicle

注

Slowly pulling assembly inwards

Remove superdash assembly

注

16x bolts, 10mm, 12 Nm, 2x grommets, 1x harness clip, Release harness grommets then feed harness through to underhood, Remove superdash from interior

Install superdash assembly

注

16x bolts, 10mm, 12 Nm, 2x grommets, 1x harness clip, Install superdash from interior, Feed harness through from underhood, Position iBooster studs to dash, Secure harness grommets

Slide lower shaft into column until it bottoms out

Position steering column into place for installation

注

Clear lower shaft through bulk head while supporting front side of steering column up towards roof of vehicle,

Connect steering column to steering gear assembly

注

Slide steering column downward to install steering gear assembly, Ensure the intermediate shaft is aligned and fully seated

Install bolt securing intermediate shaft assembly to steering gear assembly

注

1x bolt, 13mm, 18 Nm, Install new bolt

Install steering column boot to LH bulkhead

Install RH body controller to vehicle

注

1x clip, 1x tab, Maneuver controller between harness guide and body up into IP, Set tab into BIW cut-out, clip controller into body

Install bolt securing RH controller to body

注

1x bolt, 10mm, 6 Nm

Secure LV positive harness to vcright

注

2x clip, 1x hook

Connect J11 HVAC connector

注

1x connector

Connect J10 dash connector

1x connector

Connect J9 RH front seat connector

注

1x connector, Fully seat connector then engage lock

Connect J7 door connector

1x connector, Fully seat connector then engage lock

Secure connector to RH controller

Connect J4 body connector

1x connector, Fully seat connector then engage lock

Connect J2 body connector

1x connector, Fully seat connector then engage lock

Connect J6 frunk connector

Remove absorbent material from below car computer coolant hose connection points

Secure the iBooster in place

May have to align iBooster push rod before securing iBooster back into it's position

Position pedal assembly

2x studs, Negotiate around iBooster rod then secure onto iBooster studs

Install inner nuts securing pedal assembly to superdash

2x nuts, 13mm, 16.5 Nm, Install new nyloc nuts

Install outer nuts securing pedal assembly to superdash

3x nuts, 13mm, 16.5 Nm, Located under cowl, Install new nyloc nuts

Install clip securing pedal harness to pedal assembly

Connect accelerator pedal connector

1x connector, Engage locking tab

Align brake pedal to booster rod and install clevis pin to brake pedal assembly

Install cotter pin into clevis pin clip on brake pedal assembly

Install new brake switch clip into new pedal assembly

Install brake switch onto pedal assembly

Confirm that the brake pedal is in the home position,iBooster and Brake Pedal must be assembled together for brake light switch to be installed, Push the brake switch into the clip until it stops (don't push so hard as to move the brake pedal), Twist clockwise 45 degrees to set the brake switch, Make sure brake switch connector facing RH side of vehicle with connector pins vertical

2x patch bolts, 8mm, 6 Nm, 1x temp set clip, Install new bolts, Pivot harness guide upwards and back to install temp set clip to front harness, then install bolts, If new bolts are not available apply Loctite 222 to the bolts

Connect vcfront harness connectors

5x connectors, Fully seat connector, then engage locking tabs if equipped

Install vcfront protection shield

2x bolts, 10mm, 8.5 Nm

Connect supermanifold harness to vcfront

1x connector,1x tree clip, Verify locking tab is fully engaged

Secure LV positive cable to front controller

Install fresh air intake duct

1x bolt, 10mm , 4 Nm, 2x clips, 1x pin, Maneuver between cowl and frunk, Position clips onto bulkhead studs then duct secure onto thermal bar

Install 12V battery into vehicle

Install 12V battery strap

Install bolt securing upper tie down strap to A/C compressor bracket

Install vent tube hose into 12V battery

Install 12V positive terminal and terminal cover

Install HVAC assembly into vehicle and position HVAC assembly onto stud

Install front of HVAC assembly through passenger front door, Rotate counter clockwise and install towards front of vehicleStud may not be present on vehicles built after 3/2020

Install nut securing HVAC assembly to body

1x nut, 10mm, 5.5 Nm, Slightly move RH carpet and foam towards RH side of vehicle

Install bolt securing HVAC assembly to RH side of bulkhead

Install floor duct to HVAC assembly

Install floor duct onto stud located in-between LH and RH seat

Connect HVAC connector to right vehicle controller

Install A/C manifold to HVAC line to HVAC assembly

Reconnect A/C hoses to vehicle

Perform system vacuum and refrigerant refill

Select 20 mins of Vacuum, Recharge refrigerant to car's specs, add oil quantity as needed, select both HP and LP for charging

Install passenger knee air bag

Install fasteners securing passenger knee air bag to vehicle

Install RH lower A pillar trim

6x clips, 2x locating pins, Align front locating pin first

Install RH mid A pillar assembly

Connect washer hose from LH wiper arm to Y-tube fitting and secure washer hose clip

2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Pivot forward edge down past frunk assembly, Then carefully move rear edge past brake reservoir and into position, Gently press on RH side of filter to seat seal onto duct, Note: Not all Model Y vehicles have a HEPA filter assembly installed
