Gap Hider - Lower - Steering Column (Model Y Standard) (Remove and Replace)

  • 2026-10-21: Updated procedure without removal of the steering column control module.

Remove

  1. Remove the steering column upper shroud. See Steering Column Shroud Upper (Model Y Standard) (Remove and Install).
  2. Apply tape to the steering column control module to prevent it from spinning.
  3. Partially remove the LH front primary door seal from the body.
  4. Remove the LH instrument panel end cap.
    Note
    5x clips, 2x guide tabs.
  5. Remove the LH lower A pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Release the LH footwell cover.
    Note
    2x magnets, 2x datums The cCover is attached to the carpet.
  7. If equipped, remove the LH knee air bag cover.
    Note
    1x connector, 8x tabs, 2x datums.
  8. Remove the instrument panel lower assembly from the instrument panel carrier.
    Note
    13x tabs, 1x screw, T20, 2.3 Nm.
  9. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the lower gap hider to the steering column.
  10. Remove the lower gap hider from the steering column.
    Note
    2x location clips, 4x tabs.

Install

  1. Install the lower gap hider.
    Note
    2x location clips ,4x tabs.
  2. Install bolts securing gap hider lower from steering column
    Note
    2x bolts, T20, 1.2 Nm
  3. Install IP lower assembly onto IP carrier
    Note
    13x tabs, 1x screw, T20, 2.3 Nm
  4. Secure LH front cabin carpet footwell cover onto hush panel
    Note
    2x magnets, 2x datums, Cover is attached to carpet
  5. Install LH knee air bag cover
    Note
    1x connector, 8x tabs, 2x datums
  6. Install LH lower A pillar trim
    Note
    7x clips, 4x guide tabs, 1x push clip, Align guide tabs with body and harness bracket then push downwards to secure
  7. Install LH IP end cap
    Note
    5x clips, 2x guide tabs
  8. Partially install LH front primary door seal
    Note
    Verify seal is seated properly on all trim panels
  9. Remove the tape from the steering column control module.
  10. Install the steering column upper shroud. See Steering Column Shroud Upper (Model Y Standard) (Remove and Install).
