Remove

  1. Inspect the vehicle for abnormal tire wear that might indicate the need for a wheel alignment. Note any findings.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2-Post Lift.
  3. Remove the HEPA filter. See HEPA Filter Assembly (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the LH wiper bracket pencil brace. See Pencil Brace - Wiper Bracket - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  6. Remove and discard the nut that attaches the front stabilizer bar end link to the LH front strut and separate the end link from the strut.
    Note
Counter-hold the ball joint while loosening the nut.
    Tip
If needed, use a pry bar to release the end link.
    Tip
Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm socket
    • Torx T40 socket
  7. Remove the bolt and nut that attach the LH front lower lateral link to the strut.
    Tip
Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  8. Remove the nuts (x3) that attach the LH front damper assembly to the LH front upper control arm mount.
    Tip
Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  9. Remove the damper assembly from the vehicle.
    Note
Press the knuckle down appropriately to ensure sufficient space for removing the damper.

Install

  1. Maneuver the damper assembly into place.
    Note
Press the knuckle down appropriately to ensure sufficient space for installing the damper.
  2. Install the nuts (x3) that attach the LH front damper assembly to the LH front upper control arm mount.
    23 Nm (17.0 lbs-ft)
    Tip
Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  3. Hand tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH strut to the LH front lower lateral link.
  4. Position the front stabilizer end link onto the LH front strut, and then install a new nut that attaches the front stabilizer end link to the LH front strut.
    98 Nm (72.3 lbs-ft)
    Note
Counter-hold the ball joint while torquing the nut.
    Tip
If needed, use a pry bar to help position the end link.
    Tip
Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm socket
    • Torx T40 socket
  5. Install the hub jack adapter onto the LH front hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts (x5).
  6. Position and raise the underhoist stand to simulate the suspension at ride height.
  7. Measure the distance between the bottom of the fender and the center of the front axle to make sure that the front suspension is set to ride height. The distance should measure 461 mm.
  8. Tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH front lower lateral link to the strut.
    106 Nm (78.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip
Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  9. Remove the underhoist stand from underneath the LH front suspension.
  10. Remove the lug nuts (x5) that attach the hub jack adapter, and then remove the hub jack adapter from the vehicle.
  11. Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
