Procedure
-
Place the vehicle on the 2-post
lift.
TipEnsure the vehicle is not charging.
- Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
- Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
- Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
- On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap , enter "1" for coolant fill and "0" for refrigerant fill, then click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- Disconnect the LV battery power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
- Remove the air intake duct. See Duct - Air Intake (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the front aero shield panel. See Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
-
Remove the clips (x2) that attach the
LH and RH wheel liners to the body, and then use bungee cord to secure the wheel liners
to the subframe.
Figure 1. LH Shown, RH Similar - Remove the front skid plate. See Skid Plate - HV Battery - Front (Remove and Replace).
-
Position the coolant drain container
underneath the front of the HV battery.
-
Release the clip to release the
chiller to battery hose from the body.
-
Release the spring clip to disconnect
the HV battery front manifold hose from the chiller to battery hose, and then plug the
ends of fittings as soon as possible to avoid coolant loss.
NoteCoolant loss greater than 1L requires vacuum fill.
-
Remove the plugs as needed, and then
connect the coolant pressure tester onto the HV battery front manifold hose.
NotePerform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the tester is fully secured.
-
Secure the coolant pressure tester
onto the pressure fitting on the HV battery front manifold hose.
-
Position the coolant drain container
underneath the LH front of the HV battery.
-
Disconnect the HV battery return hose,
and then plug the ends of fittings as soon as possible to avoid coolant loss.
NoteCoolant loss greater than 1L requires vacuum fill.
-
Remove the plugs as needed, and then
connect the coolant drain fitting onto the HV battery return hose.
NotePerform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the tester is fully secured, and then open the adapter valve.
-
Secure the coolant cart drain hose
onto the fitting on the HV battery return hose.
- Remove the coolant drain container from underneath the vehicle.
-
Connect the compressed air to the
coolant pressure tester.
NoteMake sure the valves on the pressure regulator are closed.
-
Open the right side regulator valve,
and then slowly adjust the regulator to 30 psi.
WarningUse caution as the coolant may spill. Make sure to wear safety glasses.
-
Open the left side regulator valve
slowly.
WarningUse caution as the coolant may spill. Make sure to wear safety glasses.
- Wait at least 5 minutes for the coolant to completely drain.
-
Close the valves and let the pressure
test settle.
-
Close the HV battery return hose
valve.
-
Open the right side regulator valve
again, and then slowly adjust the regulator to 30 psi.
WarningUse caution as the coolant may spill. Make sure to wear safety glasses.
-
Open the left side regulator valve
slowly again.
WarningUse caution as the coolant may spill. Make sure to wear safety glasses.
- Allow 115 seconds for the pressure to stabilize.
-
Close the right side regulator valve,
record the starting pressure displayed, and start a 40-second timer.
-
After 40 seconds, record the ending
pressure displayed.
NoteSubtract the ending pressure from the starting pressure:
-
Subtract the ending pressure from the starting pressure, and if:
- If the difference is greater than 0.01 psi, check the hose, adapter, plug fittings, and check the regulator pressure, and then retest. If the difference is still greater than 0.01 psi, escalate a Toolbox session.
- If the difference is 0.01 psi or less, continue the procedure.
-
Disconnect the compressed air from the
coolant pressure tester.
-
Release the coolant cart drain hose
from the fitting on the HV battery return hose.
-
Disconnect the coolant drain fitting
from the HV battery return hose, and then plug the ends of fittings as soon as possible
to avoid coolant loss.
-
Remove plugs as needed, and then
connect the HV battery return hose.
NotePerform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the hose is fully secured.NoteCoolant loss greater than 1L requires vacuum fill.
-
Release the coolant pressure tester
from the pressure fitting on the HV battery front manifold hose.
-
Disconnect the coolant pressure tester
from the HV battery front manifold hose, and plug the coolant connections as
needed.
-
Remove the plugs on the ends of fittings, and then secure the spring clip to connect
the HV battery front manifold hose to the chiller to battery hose.
NotePerform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the hose is fully secured.NoteCoolant loss greater than 1L requires vacuum fill.
-
Secure the clip to install the chiller to battery hose to the body.
- Install the front skid plate. See Skid Plate - HV Battery - Front (Remove and Replace).
-
Release the LH and RH wheel liners from the subframe, and then install the clips (x2)
that attach the wheel liners to the body.
Figure 2. LH Shown, RH Similar - Install the front aero shield panel. See Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Perform a cooling system vacuum refill. See Cooling System - Vacuum Refill (Test/Adjust).
- Connect the LV battery power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
- Install the air intake duct. See Duct - Air Intake (Remove and Replace).
- Install the HEPA filter assembly. See HEPA Filter Assembly (Remove and Replace).
