Motor - Recliner - Backrest - Front Seat (Model YL) (Remove and Install)

Warning
Seat base edges are sharp and can cause personal injury. Wear cut resistant gloves when removing the seat from the vehicle, and while performing procedures that involve work on or near the seat base.

Remove

  1. Remove the driver seat assembly. See 1st Row Seat- LH (Remove and Install)
  2. Remove the driver seat lumbar support assembly. See 1st Row Power Lumbar Seatback - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Install).
    Note
    During removal, certain steps require extra care. See the animation(s) for detailed guidance.
  3. Remove the driver seat recliner tube. See Tube - Recliner - Front Seat (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
    Note
    When the tube is removed, it is not necessary to remove the clip from the tube.
  4. Remove the bolt that attaches the recliner motor to the seat back frame, and then remove the motor from the seat.
    Note
    Ensure the alignment dowel on the motor is not damaged. Hold the motor in place while removing the fastener so that the dowel is not damaged during removal.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm deep socket

Install

  1. Install the recliner motor onto the seat back frame, and hand-tighten the bolt that attaches the motor to the frame
    Note
    Make sure the alignment dowel is in the correct position.
  2. Push the driver seat recliner tube in from the inboard side of the driver seat assembly, and then push the recliner tube through the seat frame until about 6mm of the tube is visible from the outboard side.
  3. With assistance holding the outboard side end of the tube, use a 12mm deep socket and a rubber hammer to tap a new clip (1527040-00-A) onto the inboard side end of the recliner tube.
  4. Tighten the bolt that attaches the recliner motor to the seat back frame.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm deep socket
  5. Install the driver seat inboard side shield carrier. See Carrier - Side Shield - Inboard - Driver Seat (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  6. Install the driver seat outboard side shield carrier. See Carrier - Side Shield - Outboard - Driver Seat (Model YL / Model Y Performance) (Remove and Replace).
  7. Install the driver seat lumbar support assembly. See 1st Row Power Lumbar Seatback - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Install).
  8. Install the driver seat assembly. See 1st Row Seat- LH (Remove and Install)
