Caliper - Front Brake - LH (Dual Motor) (Remove and Replace)

CAUTION
Brake fluid dissolves paint. Have clean towels and plenty of water standing by to wash spilled brake fluid off painted surfaces.
Note
Dispose of used brake fluid in a manner consistent with local environmental codes.

Replace 1088969-00-B

Remove

  1. Remove the LH brake hose. See Brake Hose - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the front brake caliper anti-rattle springs (x2).
    Note
    Use a plastic trim tool to avoid damaging the coating of the caliper.
  3. Use soapy water or brake cleaner to clean the front brake caliper anti-rattle springs.
  4. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the LH front brake caliper to the knuckle.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
  5. Use the brake caliper spreader to spread the brake pads as wide as possible to push the piston into a position for easy installation.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 1134786-00-A - Brake Caliper Spreader M3
  6. Remove the brake pads from the LH front brake caliper.
    Note
    Release the adhesive between the pads and the pistons with a trim tool.
  7. Use a plastic trim tool to remove the sticky shims from the front brake pads.

Install

Note
Do not apply brake grease to the brake pad or brake caliper. 2025+ Model Y brakes do not require the application of brake grease.
  1. Clean the front brake pads.
    Note
    Make sure pads are on a clean surface. Clean any debris with a hand brush. Clean the back side of the pads with IPA wipes, and allow 1 minute dry time.
  2. Apply sticky shims onto the backside of the brake pads.
    Note
    Cut the sticky shim to 5 cm x 5 cm and center it out on the back side of the pad's piston surface. Make sure that the double sided tape mates onto the brake pad.
  3. Remove the protective film from the sticky shims on the brake pads.
  4. Install the brake pads into the LH front brake caliper.
  5. Install new bolts (x2) (1088969-00-B) that attach the LH front brake caliper to the knuckle.
    94 Nm (69.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
  6. Install the front brake caliper anti-rattle springs (x2).
    Note
    Take care not to damage the coating of the brake caliper, and make sure that the springs are fully installed.
  7. Install the LH brake hose. See Brake Hose - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
