If using this procedure to diagnosis the vehicle's Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS), disarm the RCM, which will prevent all airbags and pretensioners from deploying. Re-arm the RCM after all of the vehicle's SRS components are re-installed.

Make sure LV power has been disconnected for at least 2 minutes before disconnecting the electrical harness from Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) components, such as Restraint Control Module, sensors, airbags, etc. Failure to do so can result in unintended safety system behaviors. Note
Do NOT use impact tool to install these self-tapping bolts.

Remove

  1. Remove the headliner. See Headliner (Remove and Replace).
  2. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  3. Disconnect the electrical harness from the LH curtain airbag connector.
  4. Remove the bolts (x10) that attach the LH curtain airbag to the body.

    Do NOT use impact tool to install these self-tapping bolts.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 2 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  5. Carefully release the clips (x8) that attach the LH curtain airbag to the side rail, and remove the airbag from the vehicle.

    If any clips are damaged, the airbag must be replaced.

    The airbag should always be handled by the igniter; the igniter should never be left dangling.

Install

  1. Install the LH curtain airbag to the side rail, and then carefully fasten the clips (x8) that attach the airbag to the side rail.

    If any clips are damaged, the airbag must be replaced.
  2. Install and hand-tighten the bolts (x10) that attach the LH curtain airbag to the body.
  3. Tighten the bolts (x10) that attach the LH curtain airbag to the body.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)

  4. Connect the electrical harness to the LH curtain airbag connector.
  5. Connect 12V power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Install the headliner. See Headliner (Remove and Replace).
