Glove Box (Model 3 Standard) (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Disconnect the LV battery power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  2. Remove the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  3. For NA vehicles only: Remove the front passenger knee airbag. See Airbag - Knee - RH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the RH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Release the tree clips (x2) that attach the passenger footwell duct to the instrument panel.
  6. Disconnect the glove box USB connector from the car computer.
  7. Remove the screws (x4) that attach the glove box to the instrument panel carrier.

    • Torx T20 socket
  8. On the touchscreen, click Controls > Glovebox to open the glove box.
  9. Release the clips (x10), locator pins (x3) and datum that attach the glove box to the instrument panel carrier.

    CAUTION
    Be careful not to damage the 2 electromagnetic switches on the both sides of the glove box.

    Note
    The clips are tightly secured. Take care not to damage the leather surface.

    Note
    Replace any broken clips.
    1. Release the clips (x2) at the bottom of the glove box.
    2. Pull the glove box outward from the inner side to release it from its mounting points.
    3. After releasing the inner side, use a clip pry tool to carefully loosen the remaining clips securing the glove box.
  10. Disconnect the electrical connector from the glove box, and then remove the glove box from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Wrap the lower section of the instrument panel upper trim with adhesive tape to protect damage or scratches.
  2. Connect the electrical connector to the glove box.
  3. Secure the clips (x10), locator pins (x3) and datum that attach the glove box to the instrument panel carrier.

    Note
    Replace any damaged clips.
  4. Install the screws (x4) that attach the glove box to the instrument panel carrier.
    2.3 Nm (1.7 lbs-ft)

    • Torx T20 socket
  5. Connect the glove box USB connector to the car computer.
  6. Fasten the tree clips (x2) that attach the passenger footwell duct to the instrument panel.
  7. For NA vehicles only: Install the front passenger knee airbag. See Airbag - Knee - RH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Install the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  9. Install the RH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the adhesive tape from the instrument panel upper trim and verify that the trim is not damaged.
  11. Connect the LV battery power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
