Brake Caliper - Rear (Sport Brakes) - RH (Remove and Replace)

Warning
Upon installation, make sure that the flexible brake hose is not twisted and can bend forward. The flexible brake hose must not make contact with the wheel arch liner when the vehicle is lowered.
CAUTION
Brake fluid dissolves paint. Have clean towels and plenty of water standing by to wash spilled brake fluid off painted surfaces.
Note
Dispose of used brake fluid in a manner consistent with local environmental codes.

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Place the vehicle into EPB Service Mode. See Parking Brake - Caliper - Rear - LH (Release).
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove RH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  6. Disconnect the RH rear EPB caliper connector.
  7. Remove the bolt that attaches the RH rear EPB harness bracket to the RH rear caliper.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  8. Position the oil drain under the rear LH brake hose.
  9. Remove the bolt that attaches the RH rear brake hose to the brake caliper.
    Note
    The bolt and washers (x2) are captive and cannot be reused. Replace the hose assembly if the bolt is loosened or removed.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 11 mm 12-point deep socket
  10. Remove the brake line tube nut from the brake hose at the jounce hose bracket. Allow the fluid to drain.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm socket
  11. Release and discard the clip that attaches the brake hose to the jounce hose bracket, and then remove the hose from the bracket.
  12. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the RH rear caliper bracket to the knuckle, and then remove the caliper from the vehicle.
    Note
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18

Install

  1. Install the RH rear brake caliper onto the RH rear knuckle, and then install new bolts to attach the caliper to the knuckle.
    83 Nm (61.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
  2. Install the bolt that attaches a new hose to the RH rear brake caliper.
    42 Nm (31.0 lbs-ft)
    Note
    The bolt and washers are captive in the new hose assembly.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 11 mm 12-point deep socket
  3. Install the hose into the jounce hose bracket, and then install a new clip that attaches the brake hose to the jounce hose bracket.
    Warning
    Upon installation, make sure that the flexible brake hose is not twisted and can bend forward. The flexible brake hose must not make contact with the wheel arch liner when the vehicle is lowered.
    Note
    Pay attention to the clip orientation.
  4. Install the brake line tube nut to the brake hose at the jounce hose bracket.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm socket
  5. Install the bolt that attaches the RH rear EPB harness bracket to the RH rear caliper.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  6. Connect the RH rear EPB caliper connector.
  7. Remove the oil drain from under the vehicle.
  8. Perform a brake fluid flush on the RH rear brake. See Brake Fluid Bleed/Flush (Maintenance).
  9. Perform one of the following:
    • If the brake pads were not replaced in this procedure, perform a road test using a series of aggressive stops and make sure that there is proper brake pedal feel and brake performance.
      Note
      Add test drive correction code 00040100 as a separate activity to the Service Visit.
    • If the brake pads were replaced in this procedure, perform the brake pad burnishing procedure. See Brake Pads - Burnishing.
