Note
In the event of an airbag or seat belt tensioner deployment, certain airbag and seat belt components must be replaced, and other components must be inspected for damage. Refer to SRS Inspection and Component Replacement for a specific list of items that must be inspected and replaced.

Removal

  1. Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power .
  2. Remove the B-pillar upper trim (refer to procedure).
  3. Remove the screws that secure the seatbelt D-ring (torque 25 Nm) and seatbelt guide (torque 5 Nm) to the body.
  4. Remove the seatbelt guide.
  5. Pull the carpet aside for access to the reel assembly.
  6. Use a trim tool to carefully remove the anchor bolt cap from the inboard upper pretensioner cover.
  7. Remove and discard the anchor bolt that secures the seatbelt to the pretensioner (torque 9 Nm).
  8. Remove and discard the inboard upper pretensioner cover.
  9. Release the screws that secure the seatbelt trim cover from the upper B-Pillar trim panel (torque 2.5 Nm). Allow the seatbelt trim cover to hang on the seat, then remove the upper B-Pillar trim panel from the vehicle.
  10. Disconnect the seatbelt reel connector and position the harness aside.
  11. Remove the pretensioner from the vehicle (refer to procedure).
  12. Remove the upper bolt that secures the seatbelt reel to the body (torque 20 Nm).
  13. Remove the lower bolts that secures the seatbelt reel to the body (torque 40 Nm).
  14. Remove the seatbelt reel assembly.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Replace any broken clips.

Replace all patchbolt(s).

Position the pretensioner and fixed end of the seatbelt over the bolt hole.

2 Fixed end of the seatbelt aligned over the pretensioner and bolt hole
If the component was replaced due to an internal failure:
  1. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
  3. In Toolbox 3, click Dashboards > Service Tools > DTCs, and then select SDM or RCM depending on the vehicle Restraint Control Type.
  4. Click Read DTCs to display the DTCs.
  5. Power cycle the vehicle.
  6. Click Clear DTCs to clear the DTCs.
  7. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
