Compressor - Air Suspension (Remove and Replace)

Choose the appropriate procedure based on the vehicle's date of manufacture:

1st Generation

Correction Code 31102002

Warning
If the vehicle has air suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and supporting the vehicle.

Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle (refer to procedure)
  2. Depressurize the air suspension (refer to procedure)
  3. Disconnect 12V power (refer to procedure).
  4. Remove the front LH fusebox cover.
  5. Remove and discard the relay from K11.
  6. Remove the underhood storage unit for access (refer to procedure)
  7. Remove the front skid plate (refer to procedure)
  8. Disconnect the air suspension harness connectors (x2).
  9. Release the clips (x2) securing the harness connector to compressor bracket.
  10. Release the clip that secures the air intake hose to the air compressor. Release the hose and move it aside.
  11. Disconnect the pipe fittings (x2) from the air compressor.

    CAUTION
    Plug pipe connections to prevent ingress of moisture or dirt.
  12. Remove the bolts (x3) securing the air compressor to the compressor bracket.
  13. Remove the air suspension compressor.

Installation

  1. Install the air compressor into the vehicle.
  2. Install the bolts (x3) securing the air compressor to the compressor bracket (torque 4 Nm).
  3. Connect the pipe fittings (x2) to the air compressor.
    1. For each released end of an air suspension line, use a flat blade screwdriver to snap off the old collet, and discard the collet and nut (VOSS fitting).
    2. Install and hand-tighten a new collet and nut (VOSS fitting) to the air compressor.

      Note
      A plastic plug holds the fitting together before and during installation.
    3. Remove the plastic plug from each new fitting.
    4. Tighten each new fitting:
      • 4mm diameter fittings: Torque 2 Nm
      • 6mm diameter fittings: Torque 3.5 Nm
    5. Insert the appropriate air suspension line fully into each fitting, and then lightly pull on each line to make sure that it is secure.

      Correctly-secured lines do not pull out of fittings.
  4. Install the air intake hose to the air compressor, and then fasten the clip that secures the hose to the compressor.
  5. Fasten the clips (x2) securing the harness connector to the compressor bracket.
  6. Connect the air suspension harness connectors (x2).
  7. Install the front skid plate (refer to procedure)
  8. Install the underhood storage unit (refer to procedure)
  9. Install a new relay into K11.
  10. Install the front LH fusebox cover.
  11. Connect 12V power (refer to procedure).
  12. Pressurize the air suspension (refer to procedure)
  13. Remove the vehicle from the lift (refer to procedure)
  14. Verify air suspension operation.

2nd Generation

Warning
If the vehicle has air suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and supporting the vehicle.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle (refer to procedure)
  2. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  3. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  4. In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "TAS service mode" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-SERVICE-MODEvia Toolbox: (link), click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
  5. Click the Actions tab, type "Deflate" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_DEFLATEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Chassis ➜ Suspension ➜ Deflate, click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
  6. Click the Actions tab, type "TAS service mode" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODEvia Toolbox: (link), click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
  7. Once all Toolbox 3 routines have been completed, disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  8. Remove the underhood storage unit (refer to procedure).
  9. Disconnect 12V power (refer to procedure).
  10. Release the clips (x2), and then remove the front fusebox cover.

    Note
    Vehicles built August 21, 2017 and later use an eFuse, not a relay. For these vehicles, skip to step 12.
  11. Remove and discard the relay from K112.
  12. Disconnect the air compressor connectors (x2).
  13. Release the fir tree clip that secures the coolant hose to the compressor bracket.
  14. Release the clamp and fir tree clip that secure the air intake hose to the air compresor, and then move the hose aside.
  15. Remove the fasteners (x3) that secure the compressor bracket to the subframe.
  16. Gently lift the air compressor up and tilt it towards the RH side of the vehicle to access the pipe fittings.
  17. Remove the pipe fittings from the air compressor.
  18. Release the clip that secures the air compressor harness connector to the compressor bracket.
  19. Remove the bolts that secure the air compressor to the compressor bracket.
  20. Remove the air compressor from the compressor bracket.

Installation

  1. Install the air compressor to the compressor bracket, and then install the bolts that secure the compressor to the bracket (torque 5 Nm).
  2. Fasten the clip that secures the air compressor harness connector to the compressor bracket.
  3. Connect the pipe fittings (x2) to the air compressor.
    1. For each released end of an air suspension line, use a flat blade screwdriver to snap off the old collet, and discard the collet and nut (VOSS fitting).
    2. Install and hand-tighten a new collet and nut (VOSS fitting) to the air compressor.

  4. Install the compressor bracket to the subframe, and then install the fasteners (x3) that secure the compressor bracket to the subframe (torque 4 Nm).
  5. Install the air intake hose to the air compressor, and then fasten the clamp and fir tree clip that secure the hose to the compresor.
  6. Fasten the fir tree clip that secures the coolant hose to the compressor bracket.
  7. Connect the low voltage harnesses to the air compressor connector.
  8. Install a new relay into K112.

  9. Install the front fusebox cover.
  10. Connect 12V power (refer to procedure).
  11. Pressurize the air suspension (refer to procedure)
  12. Install the underhood storage unit (refer to procedure).
  13. Verify air suspension operation.
  14. Remove the vehicle from the lift (refer to procedure)
