Sensor - Impact - C-Pillar (Remove and Replace)

Note
In the event of an airbag or seat belt tensioner deployment, certain airbag and seat belt components must be replaced, and other components must be inspected for damage. Refer to SRS Inspection and Component Replacement for a specific list of items that must be inspected and replaced.

Removal

  1. Remove the HEPA filter outlet duct. See Duct - HEPA Filter - Outlet (Remove and Replace).
  2. Disconnect 12V power and the first responder loop. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  3. Remove the sill panel trim. See Trim - Sill Panel - LH - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  4. Pull up the lower portion of the 'C' post lower trim panel by releasing the trim clips.

    CAUTION
    Take care not to damage component(s).

    Replace any broken clips.
  5. Remove 'B' pillar lower trim (refer to procedure)
  6. Disconnect impact sensor harness connector.
  7. Remove screw (x1) securing impact sensor to body (torque 10 Nm).

    CAUTION
    The screw is left-hand threaded / reverse threaded. However, when the screw is being loosened from the tip (as opposed to the head), it functions the same as a normal screw.
  8. Remove impact sensor.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

If the component was replaced due to an internal failure:
  1. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
  3. In Toolbox 3, click Dashboards > Service Tools > DTCs, and then select SDM or RCM depending on the vehicle Restraint Control Type.
  4. Click Read DTCs to display the DTCs.
  5. Power cycle the vehicle.
  6. Click Clear DTCs to clear the DTCs.
  7. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
