Umbrella Valves - HV Battery (Remove and Replace)

Only technicians who have been trained in High Voltage Awareness and have completed all required certification courses (if applicable) are permitted to perform this procedure. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and insulating HV gloves with a minimum rating of class 0 (1000V) must be worn any time a high voltage cable is handled. Refer to Tech Note TN-15-92-003, "High Voltage Awareness Care Points" for additional safety information.

If the vehicle has air suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and supporting the vehicle.

Procedure

  1. Remove the HV battery from the vehicle, and move it away from the vehicle. See .
  2. Remove the LH side rail ski. See Ski - Side Rail - HV Battery - LH (Remove and Replace)
  3. Use a nylon brush and ESD safe vacuum to clean dirt and debris from where the LH side rail ski was removed.
  4. Remove all ganged vents from the LH side of the HV battery.

    Earlier packs may have individual umbrella valves instead of ganged vents.

    Make sure any broken clips are removed from the side rail. Use vacuum if necessary.
  5. Clean the LH underside of the HV battery with Scotch-Brite pad.
  6. Clean the LH underside of the HV battery using IPA wipes, and then allow 1 minute to dry.
  7. Visually inspect the LH side umbrella bores and edges for cleanliness and damage.

    Heavy contamination or corrosion in the o-ring area is not acceptable.
  8. Repeat step through for the RH side of the HV battery.
  9. Install all ganged vent assemblies (x7) onto the RH side of the HV battery:
    1. Align all valves/vents (x6) for each vent assembly with the holes in the HV battery.
    2. Install the valves/vents in the order shown in the image below, and then secure them by pressing on the outer ring.
    3. Visually inspect the valves/vents after installation to verify all valves/vents are fully seated and no o-rings have been pinched.
  10. Repeat step 9 on the LH side of the HV battery.
  11. Install the side rail skis. See Ski - Side Rail - HV Battery - LH (Remove and Replace).
  12. Install the HV battery. See .
