Warning
This procedure is a DRAFT, although it has been validated. Warnings and Cautions might be missing. Follow safety requirements and use extreme caution when working on or near high voltage systems and components. Provide corrections and feedback to ServiceDevelopment@teslamotors.com.

Procedure

  1. Move the vehicle to a two-post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the RH underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  5. Remove the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace).
  6. Disconnect the electrical harness from the rear drive unit inverter low voltage connector.
  7. Completely loosen the bolt, and then remove the rear drive unit inverter HV cover from the rear drive unit inverter.
  8. Remove and discard the O-rings (x2) from the rear drive unit inverter HV cover.
  9. Perform an isolation/insulation test of the rear drive unit inverter HV terminals. See Isolation/Insulation Test.

    CAUTION
    For this test:
    • Set the test voltage to 500V
    • Measure resistance at the B+ and B- terminals of the rear drive unit inverter and record value
    • Measure voltage at the B+ and ground, B- and ground, and B+ and B-
    • Do not remove the probes from the terminals until the voltage has dropped to 10V or less.
  10. Lubricate the new rear drive unit inverter HV cover O-rings with silicone lubricant, and then install the O-rings onto the rear drive unit inverter HV cover.
  11. Postion the rear drive unit inverter HV cover over the rear drive unit inverter low voltage connector, press the cover in, and then tighten the bolt that attaches the cover to the rear drive unit inverter.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
  12. Connect the electrical harness to the rear drive unit inverter low voltage connector.
  13. Install the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace).
  14. Connect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  15. Install the RH underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
  16. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove the vehicle from the two-post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
