Harness - Lower Dash (Remove and Replace)
Correction code 17100802 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. - 2025-03-18: Replaced previous procedure to latest procedure validation for the replacement of the lower dash harness for Model SR, produced after January 28th, 2019.
- Open the doors and lower the windows.
- Fully lower and extend the steering column.
- Remove the LH and RH middle A-pillar trim. See Panel - A Pillar Trim - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the driver's lower dash trim. See Trim - Dash - Driver's Side - Lower (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the RH lower instrument panel assembly. See Assembly - Instrument Panel Lower - RH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the RH footwell cover. See Assembly - Cover - Footwell - Passenger's (Remove and Replace).
- Release the clips that attach the LH lower A-pillar trim.
- Move the LH front seat forward.
- Remove the LH front seat rear track covers, and then remove and discard the bolts that attach the rear side of the LH front seat tracks to the floor panel.

Remove and discard the bolts
that attach the rear side of RH front seat tracks to floor panel
- Move the LH front seat backward.

Remove the LH front seat front
track covers, and then remove and discard the bolts that attach the front side
of the LH front seat tracks to the floor panel.
Note2x covers
- Move the seat to the middle of the track and adjust the position of the seat back to the most upright position to aid in removal.
- Repeat steps 8 to 14 for the RH seat.
- Remove the underhood aprons.

Release the primary and
secondary drain tubes from the cabin intake duct assembly.

Release the cabin intake duct
assembly from the cowl panel.
-
Remove the clips (x2) that
attach the cabin intake duct assembly.
-
Remove the HEPA filter outlet
duct from the vehicle.
- Recover the refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant Recovery and Recharge (Remove and Replace).
- Position wheel chocks at the LH rear wheel.
- Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
- Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the wiper motor. See Wiper Module (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the fuse box. See Fusebox - Underhood - 2nd Generation (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH and RH shock tower braces. See Shock Tower Brace - LH (Remove and Replace).

Remove the screws (x2) that
attach the brackets to the air suspension reservoir, and then remove the
brackets.

Set the air suspension reservoir
aside for access.
NoteManeuver the reservoir below the A/C line.

Remove the bolts (x2) that
attach the TXV to the evaporator.
NoteDiscard the O-rings and replace during installation.

Disconnect the A/C hoses and TXV
from the HVAC unit.
NoteGently pull the lines away from the bulkhead/HVAC unit. Make sure to retain the O-rings at the TXV.
- Remove the LH seat. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Install).
- Remove the LH seat. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - RH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the center console. See Center Console Assembly (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the top pad assembly. See Assembly - Top Pad - Instrument Panel (Remove and Install).
- Remove the DAS ECU. See Module - Autopilot - ECU - 2nd and 3rd Generation (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the passenger airbag. See Air Bag - Front Passenger's (Remove and Install).
- Release the clips (x10) that attach the defrost mesh grille assembly, and then remove the defrost mesh grille from the vehicle.
- Remove the RH IP finisher. See Assembly - Finisher - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the instrument cluster frame assembly. See Assembly - Frame - Instrument Cluster (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the inner driver's face level vent. See Face Level Vent - Driver's - Inner (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the outer driver's face level vent. See Face Level Vent - Driver's - Outer (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the steering column. See Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the instrument cluster. See Instrument Cluster (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the MCU. SeeMedia Control Unit (Remove and Install).
- Remove the IP carrier. See IP Carrier (Remove and Replace).

Disconnect the headliner harness
at the LH A-pillar and release it from the vehicle.

Remove the cross car beam
harness connectors at the LH lower A-pillar.
Note7x connectors. Only release the connectors that run to the harness on the cross car beam.

Disconnect the cross car beam
harness connectors at the RH lower A-pillar.
Note7x connectors. Only release the connectors that run to the harness on the cross car beam.

Remove the bolts (x3) that
attach the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly (torque 10 Nm).
-
Remove the bolts (x7) that
attach the cross car beam to the vehicle (torque 27 Nm).
-
Remove the cross car beam from
the vehicle.
NoteRecommend assistance. Be cautious when removing the cross car beam, the brake switch is attached to the cross car beam and is susceptible to failure.
- Remove the LH and RH lower B-pillar trim. See Trim - B-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Install).
- Remove LH and RH upper B-pillar trim and move it aside. See Trim - B-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Install).
- Remove the HVAC assembly. See HVAC Assembly (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the complete interior carpet. See Carpet - Interior Complete (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the HV battery. See HV Battery (RWD/AWD) (Remove and Install).
- Remove all items from pockets and make sure you're not wearing any metal items.

Remove the bolts (x2, torque 8
Nm) and rear DU HV cable clips (x2) from the HV battery LV logic connector
bracket.
-
Release the HV battery LV logic
connector cover from the bracket.
Note6x tabs, 1x edge clip.
-
Remove the HV battery LV Logic
connectors from the bracket.
Note2x tabs. Mark which connector goes to which side of the connector for reference during installation.
-
Push the logic harness through
the body to the rear seat area.
- Lower the vehicle.
-
Remove the second row Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) antenna from under the rubber NVH mat and feed it out under
the second row seat frame.
-
Disconnect the second row RKE
antenna connector.
-
Release the harness barrel clip
between the charger and the body closest to the connector on the RH side of the
vehicle behind the charger.
-
Disconnect the connector between
the charger and the body.
-
Release the harness barrel clip
between the charger and the body.
-
Release the harness barrel clip
below the ground cable to the charger.
-
Release the harness barrel clip
between the coolant hoses.
-
Release the barrel clips near
the coolant pump.
-
Disconnect the connector at the
coolant pump.
-
Feed the harness out towards the
second row door sill.
NoteGently lift up on HV cables and coolant hoses to feed the harness out. You can also move the coolant pump and surrounding foam to create room for the rubber grommet and connectors to pass by for removal
-
Remove the ground bolt at the
C-pillar (torque 9 Nm).
-
Disconnect the connector going
to the C-pillar impact sensor.
-
Remove the latch closeout at the
LH C-pillar.
-
Disconnect LH rear door latch
connector.
-
Disconnect the LH curtain
airbag.
-
Disconnect the LH tail light
connector.
-
Disconnect the charge port
connector.
-
Release the harness clips (x6)
in the LH trunk area and move harness to the C pillar area for further
removal.
-
Release the harness clips at the
C-pillar under the HV harness clips.
-
Release the harness connector
bracket from the C pillar
Note2x clips.
-
Disconnect the rear harness
connectors (x4) from the main harness at the C-pillar connector carrier.
-
Release the harness clips at the
C-pillar area.
-
Disconnect the impact sensor
harness connector on the LH B-pillar assembly.
-
Disconnect LH seatbelt
pretensioner connectors.
-
Release the harness clips at the
B-pillar.
-
Remove LH B-pillar applique. See
B-Pillar Trim Panel - LH (Remove and Replace) and disconnect the
camera harness connector..
-
Release the harness clips at the
B pillar.
-
Disconnect the connector tucked
into the B pillar opening.
-
Remove the RH floor vent air
duct.
Note2x tabs, Release the tabs and lift up from the rear portion.
-
Remove the center floor vent air
duct.
NoteSlide back the rear section of the center duct.
-
Remove the LH floor vent air
duct.
Note2x tabs. Release the tabs and lift up from the rear portion
-
Release the harness clips (x15)
along the floor panel.
-
Remove the main harness seat
connectors from their brackets.
Note2x clips. Brackets for seat connectors do not come on the new harness and are to be reused on installation.
-
Disconnect the yaw rate sensor
connector.
-
Release the harness clips along
the LH sill panel.
-
Remove the ground bolt at the LH
lower A pillar (torque 9 Nm).
-
Remove and discard the nuts that
attach the main harness carrier to the LH lower A pillar (torque 5 Nm).
-
Release the A pillar harness
connectors from the main harness connectors on the main harness carrier at the
LH lower A pillar.
Note2x connectors, 1x clip
- Remove the bolts (x8) that attach the RH side footwell cover to expose the body control module and sunroof control module (torque 5 Nm).
-
Disconnect the connectors from
the sunroof control unit at the LH footwell.
-
Disconnect the connectors from
the BCM.
Note9x connectors. The BCM may need to be tilted and moved into different positions in order to access and disconnect all connectors.
-
Remove the BCM bracket with BCM
and sunroof ECU.
-
Release the barrel clips (x4)
that attach the main harness at the LH side of the bulkhead.
-
Remove the rubber protective
cover above the air suspension ECU.
-
Disconnect the connectors (x5)
that connect the lower dash harness to the motor bay harness.
-
Disconnect the RCM and move
connectors (x2) aside.
-
Disconnect the adaptive air
suspension ECU connectors (x3).
-
Lift up the harness connectors
and remove the air suspension ECU from the vehicle.
-
Disconnect the brake switch and
accelerator pedal connector.
-
Remove the clips that attach the
brake and accelerator pedal harness to the body.
-
Disconnect the main harness
connectors at the upper A pillar.
Note1x connector, windshield defrost, 1x connector to headliner harness.
-
Remove the bolt that attaches
the RH A pillar ground connection )(torque 9 Nm).
-
Disconnect main harness
connectors from the RH A pillar cabin fuse box.
-
Release the lower RH A pillar
connector bracket from the in cabin fuse box.
-
Release the front trunk
connectors (x5) from the RH lower A pillar connector carrier.
-
Remove the harness from the
vehicle.
NoteTake care not to damage surrounding components while removing the harness from the vehicle. This is a good time to compare to the new harness provided to ensure parts received are compatible with the vehicle.
Install
- Recharge the refrigerant system after reconnecting 12V power.
- Perform a thermal system test. See Cooling System - Thermal Test.
