Gateway SD Card - Media Control Unit (Remove and Replace)

Note
This procedure replaces the standard SD card that stores the gateway configuration and information. To replace the Micro SD card that has navigation information, refer to Navigation Micro SD Card - Media Control Unit (Remove and Replace).

This procedure only applies to MCUs that are revision E or later. For MCUs that are revision D or earlier, refer to SI-21-21-002.

Note
Atom based MCUs use a Micro SD card for gateway configuration and information. Refer to Removal (Atom based MCU).

Removal (Tegra based MCU)

  1. Perform the procedure to remove the MCU from the instrument panel, but do not disconnect any cables or harnesses from the MCU (refer to procedure).
  2. Working from the top of the MCU, carefully use a precision screwdriver or plastic probe to press the SD card retaining tab to the right to eject the SD card from the socket .

    CAUTION
    Take care not to damage component(s).

    Note
    The following image shows the SD card socket with the SD card removed for clarity.
  3. Remove the SD card from the MCU.
  4. Destroy the SD card by cutting the card in half through the center, and then cut each piece into half, resulting in 4 pieces.

    CAUTION
    It is mandatory to destroy the SD card to protect user data.

Installation

  1. Insert the new SD card with the pins facing towards the touchscreen.
  2. Push the SD card into the socket until it clicks into place.
  3. Install the MCU (refer to procedure).

Removal (Atom based MCU)

  1. Perform the procedure to remove the MCU from the instrument panel, but do not disconnect any cables or harnesses from the MCU (refer to procedure).
  2. Working from the upper right side of the MCU, carefully use a precision screwdriver or plastic probe to press the Micro SD card release tab down from the socket to eject the Micro SD card.

    CAUTION
    Take care not to damage component(s).
  3. Use tweezers to carefully remove the Micro SD card from the MCU.

    CAUTION
    If the Micro SD card is accidentally dropped into the MCU chassis, completely remove the MCU from the vehicle, and gently shake the MCU with the Micro SD card slot down to work the loose Micro SD card out of a chassis opening. If this is unsuccessful, the MCU will need to be opened to remove the Micro SD card.
  4. Return the Micro SD card to MRB for evaluation.

Installation

  1. Use tweezers to carefully insert the new Micro SD card into the slot with the pins facing toward the touchscreen.

    CAUTION
    If the Micro SD card is accidentally dropped into the MCU chassis, completely remove the MCU from the vehicle, and gently shake the MCU with the Micro SD card slot down to work the loose Micro SD card out of a chassis opening. If this is unsuccessful, the MCU will need to be opened to remove the Micro SD card.
  2. Use the precision screwdriver or plastic probe to push the Micro SD card fully into the socket until it clicks into place.
  3. Install the MCU (refer to procedure).
