Calibration - Front Radar Sensor

Choose the appropriate correction code based on the vehicle's date of manufacture:

Procedure

  1. Vehicles built after August 20, 2017: skip to step 8.
  2. Remove components for access to the radar sensor:

    Remove the front fascia assembly (refer to procedure).

    Remove the HEPA filter inlet duct (refer to procedure).

  3. Drive the vehicle on to an alignment rack.

    Note
    DAS 1.0 and DAS 2.0 vehicles need vertical alignment before Service Drive Alignment. DAS 2.5 vehicles need a Service Drive Alignment, and then vertical and horizontal alignment.
  4. Clean the front of the radar sensor with water and a clean shop towel.
  5. If the vehicle was built through August 20, 2017, use the bubble tool to check vertical alignment. If the bubble is not centered between the lines on the long side of the bubble tool, adjust the vertical alignment screw until the bubble is centered:

    Inspect the bubble tool for damage. Do not perform this procedure with a damaged bubble tool.

    Excessive pressure might misalign the radar sensor. Do not apply excessive pressure to the radar sensor or bubble tool.
    Tip: Use a flashlight to make the bubble easier to see.
    Tip: Remove the adjustment tool while measuring with the bubble tool to avoid misalignment of the radar sensor.

    Gently hold the short side of the bubble tool flat against the upper center portion of the radar sensor face. Make sure that the bubble tool is against the sensor gasket.

    Adjust the alignment set screw on the right side of the radar sensor.

  6. Remove the vehicle from the alignment rack.

    In the next steps, an assistant must operate the vehicle while you use Toolbox.
  7. Install the front fascia.
  8. Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  9. Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
  10. Shift the vehicle into Park.
  11. Using Toolbox 3, select the Actions tab, and the select the appropriate ODIN routine for the vehicle:
    • If the vehicle was built through August 20, 2017, search for "BOSCH Service Drive Alignment", select the ODIN routine PROC_RADC_X_BOSCH-SERVICE-DRIVE-ALIGNMENTSearch for routine in Toolbox, click on the link of the routine, and then continue to step 12.
    • If the vehicle was built after August 20, 2017:
    1. Search for "Plant-Mode", select the ODIN routine PROC_RADC_X_PLANT-MODESearch for routine in Toolbox, click on the link of the routine, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
    2. Search for "Service Drive Alignment", select the ODIN routine PROC_RADC_X_CONTINENTAL-SERVICE-DRIVE-ALIGNMENTSearch for routine in Toolbox, click on the link of the routine, and then continue to the next step.
  12. Click Run, follow the onscreen instructions, and adjust the radar sensor alignment according to the instructions in Toolbox 3. Repeat this step until Toolbox determines that the radar sensor alignment does not need adjustment.

    Perform the calibration procedure in a suitable location and comply with all local traffic safety laws.

    If the test drive shows the vehicle to track poorly or pull to the side, or if steering is sloppy or off center, then perform a four wheel alignment check.

    Vehicles built after August 20, 2017: Bring the alignment adjustment tool in the vehicle during the drive cycle.

    The front fascia must be removed any time the radar needs to be adjusted. Make sure that the fascia is installed before performing the service drive.

    Each time a stud is adjusted, use a paint pen to mark the radar bracket near that stud. Replace the radar bracket after 5 adjustments of either stud.

  13. Vehicles built through August 20, 2017
    1. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
    2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
    3. In Toolbox 3, click Dashboards > Service Tools > DTCs, and then select the type of DTCs to read.

      If uncertain, click Check All.
    4. Click Read DTCs to display the DTCs.
    5. If necessary, power cycle the vehicle.
    6. Click Clear DTCs to clear the DTCs.
    7. Disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  14. Vehicles built after August 20, 2017:
    1. Reinstall the HEPA filter inlet duct. See Duct - HEPA Filter - Inlet (Remove and Replace).
    2. Reinstall the front fascia assembly. See Fascia Assembly - Front (Remove and Install).
  15. Perform a road test to check Autopilot and Traffic-Aware Cruise Control operation.
