Identify the vehicle's air suspension type
- Vehicles built before 11 April 2016 are equipped with Electronic Air Suspension (Conti)
- Vehicles built on or after 11 April 2016 are equipped with Tesla Air Suspension (TAS)
Note
Make sure that you follow the
correct procedures/steps that apply for the different types of air
suspension.
Depressurize - Electronic Air Suspension (Conti)
-
Position the vehicle on a 2-post
lift, but do not raise the vehicle at this time.
CAUTIONSet the suspension to "High" or "Very High" to allow the vehicle to be positioned and supported correctly on a vehicle lift.WarningActivate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and supporting the vehicle.
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
-
Press the brake pedal to turn on
the drive rails.
NoteLeave the driver door open to keep the drive rails on for the remainder of this procedure.
- Raise and support the vehicle sufficiently to unload the suspension. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Unlock the vehicle Gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
-
Select the Actions tab, type "EAS
deflate all" in the search field, select the ODIN routine PROC_EAS_X_DEFLATEvia Toolbox: (link), click
RUN and allow
the routine to complete.
NoteSelect CompleteDeflate before running the routine.
Depressurize - Tesla Air Suspension (TAS)
-
Position the vehicle on a 2-post
lift, but do not raise the vehicle at this time.
CAUTIONSet the suspension to "High" or "Very High" to allow the vehicle to be positioned and supported correctly on a vehicle lift.WarningActivate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and supporting the vehicle.
- Raise and support the vehicle sufficiently to unload the suspension. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
-
To depressurize the system: using
Service Mode, proceed to step 10. To depressurize the system using Toolbox 3, perform the following steps:
- Using Service Mode - Proceed to step 10.
- Using Toolbox 3 - Perform the following steps.
- Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
- In Toolbox, click the Actions tab, type "TAS service mode" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-SERVICE-MODEvia Toolbox: (link), click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
- Click the Actions tab, type "TAS deflate component" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_DEFLATEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Chassis ➜ Suspension ➜ Deflate, select ALL from the drop down menu, click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
- Click the Actions tab, type "TAS service mode" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODEvia Toolbox: (link), click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
- The procedure is complete.
- Enable Service Mode through the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
- Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
- On the vehicle touchscreen, touch Service Mode (spanner icon).
- Touch Chassis (damper icon) and then touch Suspension.
- Touch Service, and then touch Deflate All.
Nitrogen Refill
Special tools required for this procedure:
| Part Number | Description |
| 1083876-00-A | Air suspension Nitrogen filling kit (Americas, APAC) |
| 1028154-01-A | Nitrogen Refill kit (EMEA, except UK) |
| 1028154-02-A | Nitrogen Refill kit (UK only) |
Warning
Wear eye protection
while performing this procedure.
Warning
Make sure the Nitrogen refill kit is working correctly. Faulty gauges
or other equipment may cause damage or personal injury.
CAUTION
Use the Nitrogen
refill kit to refill the air suspension reservoir. Do not use shop air, which might
contain contaminants that could damage the air suspension system.

Vehicle Preparation
-
Complete any air suspension
component replacement procedures.
NoteIf any replacement procedures required disconnecting 12V power, reconnect 12V power.
-
Press the brake pedal to turn on
the drive rails.
NoteLeave the driver door open to keep the drive rails on for the remainder of this procedure.
- Raise and support the vehicle sufficiently to unload the suspension. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Remove the center underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
-
Locate the fill point for the air
reservoir, and then remove the cap from the Schrader valve.
-
- Vehicles manufactured before November 2013: Schrader valve on the shock tower brace.
- Vehicles manufactured November 2013 and later: Schrader valve on air suspension reservoir.
-
Nitrogen Fill Kit Attachment
- Turn the Nitrogen cylinder main valve fully clockwise to closed.
- Turn the red knob on the regulator fully clockwise to closed.
-
Attach the Schrader valve coupler
quick-disconnect adapter to the Nitrogen cylinder quick-disconnect. There are two types
of adapters:
- Portable Nitrogen fill kit uses an adapter with a T-handle coupler, a hose, a pressure gauge, and a red knob.
- Shop Nitrogen fill kit uses an
adapter with a short valve body and a black handle.
-
Prepare the Schrader valve
coupler:
- T-handle coupler: Turn the red valve fully clockwise to close.
- Black-handle coupler: Turn the black handle perpendicular to the valve body to close.
- Open the main valve on the Nitrogen cylinder by one turn counter-clockwise.
-
Make sure that the cylinder pressure
gauge is above 500 psi and below the maximum allowed limit for the bottle.
NoteIf the cylinder pressure is too low, use a different cylinder with sufficient pressure.WarningIf the cylinder pressure is too high, do not use the cylinder and report the situation to your shop safety manager.
-
For models with Conti Air Suspension,
perform the substeps below. For models with Tesla Air Suspension, go to step 8.
-
For models with Tesla Air Suspension,
perform the substeps below. For models with Conti Air Suspension, go to step 9.
- Lower the vehicle, see Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Pressurize the air suspension system using Toolbox 3 (next step) or Service Mode (skip to step 13).
-
Using Toolbox 3:
- Select the Actions tab and search for "TAS service mode".
- Select the ODIN routine PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODEvia Toolbox: (link), and then click the link of the routine.
- Click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
- On the touchscreen, turn off "Jack mode".
- On the vehicle touchscreen, touch Service Mode (spanner icon).
- Touch Chassis (damper icon) and then touch Suspension.
-
Touch Normal.
NoteAny deflated dampers will automatically inflate
- Sit in the driver or front passenger seat, close all the doors, and confirm that the vehicle moves appropriately as the suspension height is adjusted through the touchscreen.
