Car Computer (HW3) (Remove and Install)

  • 2026-05-08: Updated the procedure from performing a cooling system partial coolant refill to a cooling system vacuum refill to avoid overheating.

Remove

  1. Open LH front door
  2. Lower LH and RH front windows
  3. Open RH front door
  4. Move RH front seat backward
  5. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  6. Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes): PROC_VCFRONT_X_START-THERMAL-FILL-DRAIN-COOLANTvia Toolbox:(link)
    Note
    This routine has a time limit of 5 hours. If it takes longer than 5 hours, perform this step again.
  7. Open hood
    Note
    Via center display > Controls > Frunk Open
  8. Power off vehicle via center display
    Note
    Controls > Safety & Security > Power Off
  9. Remove rear underhood apron
    Note
    11x clips, 2x datums
  10. Disconnect LV battery connector and First Responder Loop
    Note
    2x connectors, Lift up and release green locking tab, Pull black connector lock outwards to release connection, Release red lock tab on FRL
  11. Remove RH underhood apron
    Note
    11x clips, 2x datums, Remove brush clip at hinge cover first, Take note of clip at headlamp
  12. Remove LH underhood apron
    Note
    11x clips, 2x datums, Remove brush clip at hinge cover first, Take note of clip at headlamp
  13. Remove front underhood apron
    Note
    12x clips, 3 datums
  14. Remove frunk access panel
    Note
    3x clips, 3x hooks, 1x connector
  15. Remove frunk carpet
  16. Remove frunk assembly
    Note
    8x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm
  17. Remove RH front floor mat
  18. Remove RH footwell cover
    Note
    3x magnets, 1x connector, 4x datums
  19. Remove RH console side carpet
    Note
    11x clips, 2x datums
  20. Remove RH front sill plate
    Note
    5x clips
  21. Remove RH IP end cap
    Note
    3x clips
  22. Remove RH mid A-pillar trim
    Note
    1x clip, 1x locating clip
  23. Remove RH lower A-pillar trim
    Note
    1x bolt, T25, 5 Nm, 2x clips
  24. Fold RH front cabin carpet aside for access
  25. Release harness from RH footrest panel
    Note
    1x clip
  26. Release RH footrest panel
    Note
    2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, 2x nut, 10mm, 5 Nm
  27. Remove RH footrest panel
    Note
    Fold RH primary support carpet up, Rotate RH footrest panel out of vehicle
  28. Release connector to gaming MCU
    Note
    1x connector, Depress lock on underside of connector before pulling out of socket, Possible damage to PCBA may occur if removed without releasing lock first
  29. Release connector to connectivity module
    Note
    1x connector, Move release lock rearward before removal
  30. Release connections at LH side of entertainment motherboard
    Note
    6x connectors, Release locks on connectors before removal
  31. Release connections at LH side of AP motherboard
    Note
    7x connectors, Release locks on connectors before removal
  32. Release connectors at RH side of entertainment motherboard
    Note
    6x connectors, Release locks on connectors before removal
  33. Release connectors at RH side of AP motherboard
    Note
    3x connectors, Release locks on connectors before removal
  34. Install coolant hose clamps to coldplate hoses
    Note
    2x hoses, Place coolant absorbent mats or rags around the car computer
  35. Release coolant hoses from car computer coldplate assembly
    Note
    2x spring locks, Install coolant plugs at both hoses and car computer
  36. Remove car computer from vehicle
    Note
    2x bolts, 10mm, 7 Nm, 1x nut, 10mm, 8 Nm, Remove any residual coolant from vehicle

Install

  1. Install car computer to vehicle
    Note
    2x bolts, 10mm, 7Nm, 1x nut, 10mm, 8Nm
  2. Secure coolant hoses to car computer coldplate assembly
    Note
    2x spring locks, Place coolant absorbent mats or rags around the car computer, Remove coolant plugs, Ensure spring locks engage and perform pull-push-pull test on each hose coupling
  3. Remove coolant hose clamps
    Note
    2x hoses, Remove absorbent material, Clean residual fluid, Inspect for leaks
  4. Install connectors at RH side of AP motherboard
    Note
    3x connectors
  5. Install connectors at RH side of entertainment motherboard
    Note
    6x connectors
  6. Install connections at LH side of AP motherboard
    Note
    7x connectors
  7. Install connections at LH side of entertainment motherboard
    Note
    6x connectors
  8. Install connector to connectivity module
    Note
    1x connector, Slide lock underneath connector
  9. Install connector to gaming MCU
    Note
    1x connector, Confirm connector locked into socket
  10. Perform a cooling system vacuum refill. See Cooling System (Vacuum Refill).
  11. Install RH footrest panel
    Note
    Rotate RH footrest panel into vehicle, Fold RH primary support carpet down
  12. Secure RH footrest panel
    Note
    2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, 2x nut, 10mm, 5 Nm
  13. Secure harness to RH footrest panel
    Note
    1x clip
  14. Fold RH main carpet back into place
  15. Install RH footwell cover
    Note
    3x magnets, 4x datums, 1x connector
  16. Install RH lower A-pillar trim
    Note
    1x bolt, T25, 5 Nm, 2x clips
  17. Install RH mid A-pillar trim
    Note
    1x clip, 1x locating clip, Verify weather seal is seated properly
  18. Install RH IP end cap
    Note
    3x clips
  19. Install RH front sill plate
    Note
    5x clips
  20. Install RH front floor mat
  21. Move RH front seat to original position
  22. Raise RH front window
  23. Close RH front door
  24. Install frunk assembly
    Note
    8x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm
  25. Install frunk carpet
    Note
    Verify carpet is properly seated under the seal
  26. Install frunk access panel
    Note
    3x clips, 3x hooks, 1x connector
  27. Install front underhood apron
    Note
    12x clips, 3x datums
  28. Install LH underhood apron
    Note
    11x clips, 2 datums
  29. Install RH underhood apron
    Note
    11x clips, 2x datums
  30. Install rear underhood apron
    Note
    11x clips, 2x datums
  31. Close hood
  32. Calibrate the rear doors.
    Note
    If the "Calibration Needed" message appears on the vehicle touchscreen, touch and hold Calibrate to calibrate the rear doors.
  33. Raise LH front window
  34. Close LH front door
